Self-Storage

National Self-Storage
Southfield, Michigan

A program requiring climatized storage, a flexible interior layout and a nontraditional exterior design was the challenge presented to Dorchen/Martin Associates, Inc. for this Southfield location. Other projects for National Self-Storage have required land combination, site planning, site plan approval and rezoning, façade design and approval and complete construction documents. Through concept and development of this program, Dorchen/Martin Associates, Inc. has utilized a variety of façade materials along with unique construction techniques in an effort to enhance and improve this stereotypical building type.

Fort Knox Self-Storage
Scio Township, Michigan
Westland, Michigan

One of a series of self-storage sites designed for the Fort Knox group. The Scio Township site included an auto-service center to provide additional attractions as an enhancement to the storage use. The concept of having multi-purpose services on one property is that each tenant will benefit from the activity of the others. The Westland facility was designed as a single-use site, however, both developments utilized a two-story office building element having block mass proportions and the appearance of limestone wall facing.

Obtaining site plan approval, all permits and rendering continuous observation during construction were included in the complete services provide the client.
