As a testimony to its satisfaction with the architect, this well-known and respected client has maintained an on-going relationship with Dorchen/Martin Associates, Inc. Recent commissions include a toilet room study of the hospital and the renovation of a portion of the second floor to provide wheel chair and stretcher storage.

Heart Cardiology Suite
Providence Hospital and Medical Centers

Southfield, Michigan

The merger of cardiology practices required additional space at the Providence Medical Building. Unfortunately, space was not available adjacent to the existing spaces and two existing medical spaces on another floor was selected as the expansion cardiology suite. Minimizing the removal of existing walls and plumbing while adapting the space to meet the expanded needs of the relocated practice were the challenges facing Dorchen/Martin Associates, Inc.

Fortunately, the ultimate design solution provided all of the requirements with economies of construction and phasing acceptable to Providence Hospital and Heart Cardiology Consultants.

Detroit, Michigan

Dorchen/Martin Associates, Inc.,
in collaboration with Advantage Health Centers and St. John Health/Providence, developed this multi-disciplined health center for the Brightmoor District – a disadvantaged community in northwest Detroit.

Architectural challenges found on the existing site and within the structure provided creative opportunities for this dramatic building renovation from a former U.S. Post Office to the Thea Bowman Community Health Center.  Special attention to details at the new entrance and canopy, along with the colorful awnings, bring new life to this mature structure and the surrounding Brightmoor district.  The former post office customer service area has been transformed into a comfortable, attractive and efficient waiting area for clients.  Check-in, as well as access to treatment areas, community and reflection rooms radiate from the waiting area core.

The vision for the Thea Bowman Community Health Center and the results are dramatic and inspirational.   This monumental undertaking will serve as a vibrant example of redevelopment that answers to social needs.
